Split accepted, undelivered and already-dispatched quantities
The synthetic PO-T totals eighteen units. Six were accepted under R-T. The supplier acknowledges eight not yet dispatched and four already in transit. The buyer authorises cancellation of the eight unshipped units only. Any return of the four in transit requires another decision.
| Subset | Quantity | Evidence | After cancellation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Accepted receipt R-T | 6 | Receiver accepted | Retain accepted stock |
| Unshipped balance | 8 | Supplier ACK-T; buyer CAN-T | Cancelled |
| In-transit shipment SH-T | 4 | Dispatch evidence provided | Still pending arrival decision |
Close the cancelled balance and keep transit visible
- Verify accepted receipt quantity
- Obtain supplier dispatch breakdown
- Authorise eight-unit cancellation
- Record acknowledged cancelled scope
- Continue tracking four in transit
If dispatch state is unknown, leave the proposed cancellation pending supplier confirmation. Do not erase an open balance on the assumption that nothing has shipped.
PO-T keeps its original eighteen-unit history, split into six accepted, eight cancelled and four still to resolve on arrival. CAN-T must not reverse R-T. If SH-T later arrives, record the physical event and apply the authorised arrival or return decision rather than classifying it as an unrequested new order.
What remains open after the eight-unit cancellation is acknowledged?
Show the worked answer
Four units in transit remain open. Six accepted plus eight cancelled plus four in transit equals eighteen; the accepted receipt remains unchanged.
