Identify the surplus before put-away
The synthetic purchase authorises ten cartons and the vehicle delivers twelve. Cartons are indivisible here and all have the same item and lot. The receiver has no authority to expand the order. Use a distinct surplus reference so the extra two cannot be picked while the buyer decides.
| Cartons | Authority | Location | Next owner |
|---|---|---|---|
| C01–C10 | 10 ordered | Accepted bin A | Receiver posts 10 |
| C11–C12 | No order amendment | Surplus hold H-A | Buyer decides |
| Return instruction RT-A | Buyer rejects surplus | H-A to collection staging | Supplier collection evidence |
Resolve surplus without inventing an order
- Count authorised and surplus cartons
- Receive the ten authorised cartons
- Hold two under surplus reference
- Execute buyer acceptance amendment or return
If the supplier refuses collection, keep custody and escalation evidence; refusal does not grant permission to sell the surplus.
In the supplied decision the buyer rejects the surplus. Match collection to C11 and C12 and close H-A only when the handover is evidenced. If acceptance is chosen instead, the buyer must first identify the approved amendment and its quantity. No storage charges or ownership rule is assumed.
After both surplus cartons are collected, how many cartons were accepted and how many remain on hold?
Show the worked answer
Ten were accepted and none remain on hold. Two were returned under RT-A; they were never counted as accepted purchase stock.
