Separate assisted work from trainer-only work
The synthetic trainer has six available hours. A trainee’s four-hour task requires two trainer hours under the supplied coaching plan. The trainer also has five hours of independent work queued. The trainee’s four hours cannot be treated as four extra senior hours or assumed to need no coaching.
| Work | Trainer hours | Trainee hours | Plan state |
|---|---|---|---|
| Assisted task | 2 | 4 | Reserved |
| Independent work | 5 requested; 4 fit | 0 | 1 hour unscheduled |
| Capacity total | 6 | 4 | No extra hours assumed |
Leave the unsupported hour visible
- Reserve two trainer hours
- Assign trainee’s four-hour task
- Allocate four independent trainer hours
- Defer or reassign the remaining hour
Reducing coaching requires an agreed revised support plan; simply removing its hours would change the conditions of the trainee task.
The trainer’s requested seven hours exceed six by one. The plan still needs the independent one-hour remainder, even if the trainee completes successfully. No competency or productivity guarantee follows from the allocation.
If another qualified colleague takes the last hour, what is the trainer’s final load?
Show the worked answer
Six hours: two coaching plus four independent. The other colleague owns one independent hour; the trainee still has four.
