Separate unpicked allocations from physical work
The sample receipt has five released units. O-W has three allocated but unpicked; O-X has two allocated and already picked. An authorised business decision gives O-Y priority for three. The supplied policy allows reassignment of unpicked allocations only; it does not authorise taking goods from an active pick.
| Order | Before | Change under PRI-Y | After |
|---|---|---|---|
| O-W | 3 allocated; unpicked | Release allocation 3 | 3 backordered |
| O-X | 2 allocated; picked | No change | 2 remain in pick task |
| O-Y | 3 backordered | Allocate released 3 | 3 allocated; unpicked |
Make one visible reassignment
- Confirm authorised priority decision
- Check current pick state
- Release O-W unpicked allocation
- Allocate same three to O-Y
- Record affected orders and notify task owners
If O-W starts picking before reassignment is recorded, recheck custody and obtain a revised decision; the earlier unpicked assumption no longer applies.
PRI-Y retains the reason, authorised owner and affected order lines. It transfers a claim on three units; it adds no physical quantity. O-W’s backorder must reopen visibly so the team does not lose its demand. Customer communication remains a separate staff task, not an automatic message in this example.
Can O-Y receive all five units because it now has highest priority?

No. The approved change covers the three unpicked units. O-X’s two picked units remain assigned; O-Y receives three and O-W reopens for three.
