Keep the physical short pick visible
Order O-E requires eight units of IT-C. The assigned bin has only five on the physical check. A second bin holds three units with the same approved lot and release state, and no competing allocation in the supplied case. The picker cannot assume another bin is suitable merely because its item code matches.
| Task / bin | Required / verified | Decision | Evidence |
|---|---|---|---|
| PK-E1 / P-E | 8 / 5 | Pick 5; record shortage 3 | Count CT-E |
| PK-E2 / R-E | 3 / 3 | Pick remaining 3 | Lot and release review LR-E |
| Location issue LI-E | P-E discrepancy unresolved | Investigate separately | Do not silently adjust P-E |
Finish the order and retain the location problem
- Record actual first pick
- Open location shortage issue
- Verify alternate lot and release
- Assign remaining three units
- Check combined pick for packing
If alternate stock is held or already allocated, leave the three-unit task short and hand it to the order owner; do not consume someone else’s allocation.
Keep PK-E1 and PK-E2 under one order line. Completing O-E does not resolve why P-E had only five. LI-E remains with an investigation owner so repeated pick failures do not disappear behind successful packing.
What is the packed quantity, and should LI-E close automatically?
Show the worked answer
Eight units can be checked for packing, from five plus three. LI-E remains open until its location discrepancy has an evidenced explanation and authorised correction if needed.
