Receive measured goods without inventing a piece conversion

Keep container count and measured quantity as separate facts when no fixed units-per-weight conversion exists.

State which measure controls this receipt

The synthetic order is for material measured in kilograms. Two rolls arrive and the supplied accepted net readings are 4.8 kg and 5.1 kg. Roll count is useful for custody but has no fixed kilogram conversion. These are assumed verified readings; this worksheet does not specify calibration, trade measurement or pricing rules.

Post the accepted measure alongside custody count

  1. Identify the order measure
  2. Record each container
  3. Attach accepted net reading
  4. Total the kilogram quantity
  5. Retain roll count separately

A missing net reading leaves that roll’s kilogram quantity unresolved. Do not replace it with the other roll’s weight or a guessed average.

R-M records 9.9 kg and two rolls. If a later request asks for one roll, staff select a particular identified roll and its actual measure. “One roll equals 4.95 kg” is merely an average of these two and cannot be used to identify either roll. Monetary and tolerance decisions remain outside this record.

ROLL-A is issued whole. What remains, and is a fixed roll conversion established?

Show the worked answer

ROLL-B remains: one roll and 5.1 kg. No fixed conversion is established; the two accepted measurements differ.
