Release part of a lot while keeping the failed units held

Define the inspected subset and preserve its physical identity when a lot has mixed results.

Tie each result to identifiable units

In this synthetic case all twenty units in lot L-B are individually checked. Units U01–U16 pass and U17–U20 fail the agreed finish check. The release owner permits only individually passed units. A lot-wide “passed” flag would lose the four failures.

Keep the split visible through put-away

  1. Inspect identified units
  2. Separate passed and failed subsets
  3. Authorise passed subset
  4. Move with original lot and subset references
  5. Keep failures on disposition queue

If units cannot be physically distinguished after mixing, pause the move and re-establish the subset; do not guess which four failed.

Release REL-B must carry U01–U16, quantity sixteen and the authorised owner. Retain the same parent lot for both locations. A later repair and reinspection of the four held units creates another decision with its own evidence; it does not overwrite IN-B2.

Two failed units later pass a documented reinspection. What quantities are released and still held?

Show the worked answer

Eighteen are released in total and two remain held. Keep the original sixteen-unit release and a separate two-unit reinspection release: 16 + 2 + 2 = 20.
