Split one enquiry into separate buying decisions

Use one contact record with distinct opportunities when scope, owner and decision timing differ.

Keep shared contact without shared opportunity state

Synthetic enquiry E-32 requests an immediate data-cleanup task and a later customer portal. The same contact speaks for both, but cleanup has a confirmed sponsor and portal discovery has none. Create two opportunity records linked to the original enquiry. A cleanup win must not mark the portal won; one shared contact does not make the purchasing decisions identical.

Split at the decision boundary

  1. Identify distinct requested outcomes
  2. Compare decision owner and timing
  3. Create linked opportunities
  4. Track each decision separately

Do not split every feature into an opportunity when the customer makes one bundled purchasing decision.

Cleanup is won and the portal is paused. How many won opportunities exist?

Show the worked answer

One. O-CLEAN is won; O-PORTAL is paused. C-32 remains a single contact linked to both.

These are CRM record boundaries, not an attribution model or provider-specific lead conversion procedure.
