Use the workbook
You need the task total for one team at a time. Open the workbook in Calc and select a team in E5; its count appears in E6. The choices and counts are in A5:B7. These are fictional tasks, not a performance ranking.
| Team | Tasks |
|---|---|
| Studio | 18 |
| Field | 11 |
| Office | 7 |
Change the inputs
E6 uses exact INDEX/MATCH against A5:B8. Change Field to Office: 11 becomes 7; Studio gives 18. To add a choice, fill A8 with Support and B8 with 4, then extend the validity source to A5:A8 and select Support. A label without a corresponding count is incomplete.
Check the misleading result
An unknown label has no exact match and produces #N/A. The file contains a selection rule, but typing rejection varies with the application and entry route; this exercise verifies the choices and calculation, not every rejection dialog. Do not use an approximate match to make a typo return another team’s count.
Why must the source range include both the new label and its count?
Show the worked answer
MATCH finds the label’s position; INDEX reads the count at that same position. Misaligned ranges can return the wrong row.
