Record the preference threshold that changes an option ranking

Make a weighted choice conditional rather than disguising subjective weights as facts.

Plan from the supplied facts

Original design exercise supplies speed/clarity points: A=9/3, B=5/7. The chosen score is w×speed+(1−w)×clarity, with 0≤w≤1. Points and weights are fictional preference inputs, not supplier capability scores or measured product outcomes.

Work through the choice

A=3+6w and B=7−2w. Their difference is 8w−4, so the ranking changes at w=0.5. The weights encode the objective; the arithmetic cannot choose the objective.

At w=0.6, what are the scores and the model’s choice?

Show the worked answer

A=6.6 and B=5.8, so A is higher by 0.8. This choice is conditional on the supplied point and weight model.

Material to use in your plan

Keep option measures, weighting formula, tie threshold and the range of weights selecting each option. Attach the chosen weight and rationale to the project decision.
