Compare the operating models
A fictional video consultation needs an adviser, court hire needs Court-C, and treatment needs a therapist plus Room-R. A free court does not make a therapist available; a free therapist does not create a room.
| Business requirement | Staff-driven availability | Resource-driven availability |
|---|---|---|
| Video consultation | Assigned adviser calendar | No physical resource in fixture |
| Court hire | Staff not the capacity object | Court-C occupation |
| Treatment | Therapist required | Room-R also required |
Work through the chosen model
The service dependency sheet names required staff roles and resource types. The appointment stores actual assignments. Use staff-only for video, resource-only for court and combined dependencies for treatment; avoid a single pooled Capacity number that erases the constraints.
- List required occupants
- Find matching availability
- Reserve actual assignments
Combined models are more accurate but need every relevant calendar maintained. Resource count alone cannot measure the capacity of a service with staff requirements.
A treatment at 10:00 reserves therapist T and Room-R. Court-C remains unrelated; its free time cannot substitute for Room-R.
When the other model fits
Treatment becomes a remote call with no room use. Keep reserving Room-R?
