Allocate work that needs two complementary staff together

Find shared availability for the required pair rather than summing unrelated individual hours.

Match the required skills and common window

The sample task needs a data operator and a business-rule owner together for two continuous hours. Jo is available 09:00–12:00; Mei 11:00–14:00. They hold the respective supplied skills. Their initial common window is only 11:00–12:00. Neither can perform the other role in this example.

Reserve only a confirmed two-person interval

  1. Confirm both required roles
  2. Intersect availability
  3. Identify one-hour shortage
  4. Obtain Mei’s changed availability
  5. Reserve 10:00–12:00 if accepted

Until Mei accepts the change, keep the two-hour task unscheduled. Three hours for each person do not create three shared hours.

The initial schedule cannot fit the task. The accepted alternative creates the required two-hour overlap without changing role requirements. Keep the original and confirmed windows distinct.

If Mei accepts 10:00–13:00, what is the usable common interval?

Show the worked answer

10:00–12:00, two continuous hours. Jo’s availability ends at 12:00, so 12:00–13:00 cannot be added.
