Pause active work for an urgent interruption and resume from a checkpoint

Save the completed portion and next step before assigning the interruption.

Capture work state before switching

The synthetic task has ten numbered folders. F01–F04 are checked, F05 is open but unchecked, and F06–F10 are untouched. The lead authorises an urgent interruption and requires a checkpoint before switching. Folder numbers identify real work units in this example, not decorative card ordinals.

Resume the unfinished unit, not the whole batch

  1. Record last completed folder
  2. Save unfinished F05 state
  3. Handle authorised urgent work
  4. Verify checkpoint on return
  5. Resume F05 then remaining five

If input folders changed during the pause, compare revisions before reusing the checkpoint; a completed check applies to the version actually checked.

Six folders remain unchecked, including F05. Record the interruption separately from normal execution time so a later estimate can distinguish working effort from elapsed delay.

Should F05 count as complete because it was open before the interruption?

Show the worked answer

No. Four are complete and six remain. Resume with the unchecked F05.
