Release unused contingency time at the agreed review point

Keep a named reserve intact until its stated review, then allocate only the confirmed unused portion.

Record reserve use and the release condition

The sample week contains twenty task hours and a four-hour reserve within twenty-four available hours. The team rule releases unused reserve at Thursday noon after open urgent work is checked. Three reserve hours have been consumed; one remains. A two-hour queued task is ready.

Use the released hour without overstating capacity

  1. Wait for stated review point
  2. Check remaining urgent work
  3. Verify one unused reserve hour
  4. Release that hour
  5. Schedule only permitted partial work

If the queued task is indivisible, keep it queued; one released hour cannot complete a two-hour task.

The reserve release adds one schedulable hour, not four. Under the sample’s permitted task split, one hour can be assigned now and one remains for another slot. Keep reserve consumption visible for next week’s planning.

If partial work is allowed, how much of the queued task remains after the released hour is used?

Show the worked answer

One hour remains: two requested minus one assigned. Total week use becomes 20 + 3 + 1 = 24 hours.
