Work with the example
Which input is stopping this units-per-session report? Open the workbook in LibreOffice Calc. B5 contains 14 units; B6 contains zero sessions. D5 divides them directly, while E5 checks the source inputs. These are fictional nonfinancial units.
| Input | Value | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| B5 | 14 | Units |
| B6 | 0 | Sessions |
Edit the working cells
D5 uses =B5/B6 and shows #DIV/0!. E5 uses ISNUMBER for both inputs, then refuses B6<=0 with “Sessions must be positive”. Change B6 to numeric 2: both results become 7 units/session. Change B5 to numeric 0: the valid result becomes 0. Clearing B6 or entering text "2" gives “Sessions missing” in E5.
Check the failure case
F5 uses =IFERROR(D5;0). It replaces the original division fault with an apparently usable zero. Correct the input rather than allowing that zero into the report.
If B5=0 and B6=2, should the checked result be a warning or a number?
Show the worked answer
Numeric 0. The sessions are valid and the source units really are zero.
