Use the workbook
You are preparing a two-item quantity report. Both items use one multiplier. Open the editable workbook in LibreOffice Calc; yellow cells are inputs. The second grid uses each row quantity with each column multiplier. All figures are fictional practice data.
| Quantity | Shared multiplier | Result |
|---|---|---|
| 4 | 3 | 12 |
| 7 | 3 | 21 |
Change the inputs
B5 uses =A5*$E$4. Fill it down to B6: A5 becomes A6 while $E$4 remains fixed. In the matrix, E10 uses =$D10*E$9: the row quantity stays in column D and the multiplier stays in row 9. Fill right, then down. Change E4 from 3 to 4; the two results become 16 and 28.
Check the misleading result
The comparison formulas in B14:B15 use E4 without anchors. Copying down moves the shared reference to empty E5, producing 0 for the second item instead of 21. A numeric result does not establish that the reference is correct.
Which parts of =$D10*E$9 move when copied one cell right and one row down?
Show the worked answer
It becomes =$D11*F$9. The quantity row and multiplier column move; column D and row 9 remain fixed.
