Include shared prerequisites in a feature’s release effort

Calculate the prerequisite-closed scope rather than the feature label alone.

Plan from the supplied facts

Fictional A needs 2 hours and B needs 3, but each requires the same enabler E at 4 hours. E is not yet present and is built once. A release with both features therefore costs 9 hours, not five. An original first-release allowance is six hours.

Work through the choice

Follow prerequisite edges backwards from a proposed feature and union the required nodes. Shared E is counted once even when both features are selected.

What is the complete cost of releasing A and B together?

Show the worked answer

E+A+B=4+2+3=9 hours, three above six. Counting E twice would incorrectly give 13.

Material to use in your plan

Use selected features, missing prerequisite nodes, shared nodes and unique-node effort total. Keep already-present prerequisites separate from unbuilt ones.
