A fictional tea shop offers tea plus a cup, three identical tea packs, and a build-your-own gift. The gift allows tea A or B and a red or white cup. These offers need different order detail even if all are called a bundle.
| Business requirement | Fixed or multipack | Customer-selected contents |
|---|---|---|
| Tea plus white cup | Named contents recorded once | Adds unnecessary choices |
| Three packs of tea A | One repeated component quantity | Allows choices the offer does not sell |
| One tea and one cup | Requires many preset offers | Two selection slots retain actual choices |
Work through the chosen model
The self-build offer has two slots: tea and cup. Each slot stores its allowed items, required quantity and selected item on the order. The basket must show B tea plus red cup, rather than a generic Gift item with a free-text note.
- Choose the bundle type
- Select required contents
- Staff pick the recorded items
Fixed packs are easier to present and pick. Self-build offers need clearer choices and packing detail; adding them is justified only when the business actually offers that flexibility.
The three offers resolve to A+white, A+A+A, and B+red respectively. Only the last needs customer selection slots; the other two remain fixed definitions.
When the other model fits
The shop allows any three teas, including repeats. Can the three-pack stay one fixed component?
Show the worked answer
No. Record three tea selections or item quantities, since A+A+B differs from A+A+A.
