Keep throughput units consistent
Synthetic independent workers have sustainable capacities A60,B40,C30 jobs/minute. Failure removes one worker completely. Workload is 65 jobs/minute and local acceptance needs remaining capacity at least workload plus 10 jobs/minute. Capacities are provided scenario constants, not benchmarks.
| Lost worker | Remaining jobs/min | Against 75 required |
|---|---|---|
| A60 | 70 | Short 5 |
| B40 | 90 | Headroom 15 beyond requirement |
| C30 | 100 | Headroom 25 beyond requirement |
Remove the failed capacity
- Sum total capacity
- Subtract each possible lost worker
- Compare minimum with 75
Queue growth is not avoided merely because a short burst fits an instantaneous capacity figure. This drill assumes the supplied sustained rates.
Does the set pass after any one loss?
Show the worked answer
No. Losing A leaves 70, enough for 65 demand but only 5 headroom, below required 10. The worst case is short 5 jobs/minute against 75.
Check demand and headroom separately
| Case | Decision | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| Demand-only comparison 70≥65 | Insufficient policy check | Headroom condition omitted |
| Full comparison 70<75 | Fail | 5 jobs/min short |
A revised capacity plan must close the worst-case gap, then be checked under actual workload evidence. Do not call the scenario rate a company availability result.
