Work with the example
Can the meeting view put days down the rows while the source keeps days across columns? The workbook opens with Report and keeps the original Input matrix separate. Each displayed header and value is a scalar INDEX reference; there is no spill region to manage.
| Report day | Desk | Field |
|---|---|---|
| Mon | 2 | 3 |
| Tue | 4 | 5 |
| Wed | 6 | 7 |
Edit the working cells
Report.B5 uses =INDEX(Input.$B$5:$D$6;COLUMN()-COLUMN($B$5)+1;ROW()-ROW($B$5)+1). Fill right and down across B5:C7. The original row index becomes the report column index and the original column index becomes its row index. Change Input.C6 to 0: only Report.C6 becomes 0. Fresh Input.B5=9 updates Report.B5; Input.C4=Tuesday updates Report.A6.
Check the failure case
A values-only transposed copy initially looks correct but stays stale after source edits. Keep the exact anchored source ranges and inspect the first, middle and last formulas after filling. This exercise does not use a TRANSPOSE array or paste-special menu.
Why should the report day headers also stay linked?
Show the worked answer
A source header change must stay paired with its values, rather than leaving a stale label beside updated numbers.
