Use the workbook
Compare three trial batch sizes with their processing time. Open the workbook’s XY scatter and category-line comparison in Calc. Each source row is one paired observation; the figures do not establish a production forecast.
| Batch size | Minutes |
|---|---|
| 2 | 4 |
| 5 | 7 |
| 20 | 13 |
Change the inputs
The scatter chart’s horizontal gaps are 3 and 15, a ratio of 1:5. Read the marked observations; the connecting curve supplies no estimate between batches. Change A7 from 20 to 35: the second gap becomes 30, while B7 remains 13. If sorting, select both columns and keep each measurement pair on the same row.
Check the misleading result
The category-line chart places three categories equally far apart. It can show the ordered readings but hides the uneven numeric gaps. Sorting only the size column would create measurement pairs that were never supplied.
Does the gap from size 5 to size 35 equal the gap from 2 to 5?
Show the worked answer
No: 30 versus 3, a ratio of 10:1. The scatter axis retains that distinction.
