Use the workbook
Prepare a monthly task report for desk and field work. The workbook has two editable charts linked to the same source. Read the grouped chart for each activity and the stacked chart for the combined count.
| Month | Desk | Field | Combined |
|---|---|---|---|
| Apr | 12 | 8 | 20 |
| May | 9 | 15 | 24 |
Change the inputs
Desk falls by 3 from April to May, while the combined total rises by 4. Change May Field in C6 from 15 to 5. Both charts update: May’s total becomes 14, and its Desk value stays 9. Use actual counts on the vertical axis; neither chart is a percentage chart.
Check the misleading result
The higher stacked May bar does not mean Desk increased. Desk is 9 versus 12; Field accounts for the original rise in the total. A stacked upper segment’s endpoint is a cumulative height, not that segment’s own count.
After changing May Field to 5, what are May’s combined count and the Desk change?
Show the worked answer
Combined 14; Desk change remains −3.
