Compare the rule with concrete cases
Fictional parent reminder flag is on. Child A has mode inherit; B has mode override and value off; C has override and on. B must remain off.
| Child | Mode | Local value | Effective flag |
|---|---|---|---|
| A | Inherit | Unused | On |
| B | Override | Off | Off |
| C | Override | On | On |
Work through the distinction
Test explicit off when the parent is on. Testing only on values would not expose an implementation that treats false as missing.
The parent changes to off. Which children still have an on flag?
Show the worked answer
Only C. A inherits the new off value; B already overrides off; C explicitly overrides on.
Acceptance wording to adapt
If mode=inherit, use the parent flag. If mode=override, use the supplied Boolean value, including false. An explicit false must not trigger fallback to the parent.
