Choose against the task constraints
The example quotation has eight scope lines, two delivery phases and a revision reference. A buyer must compare it with an earlier revision and return next week. A short edit of one internal note is a different task. These invented documents have no contractual force.
| Condition | Dedicated detail page | Modal dialog |
|---|---|---|
| Revisit the same revision | Stable route can identify the revision | Opening state needs a route or equivalent restoration |
| Read a long table beside other evidence | Full reading area with ordinary page navigation | Background interaction is unavailable while modal is open |
| Edit one short note | May be more navigation than necessary | Contained task can return to its invoking control |
Choose a detail page for this quotation. A modal may suit the short note edit if it has a visible close action, contains keyboard focus and returns focus appropriately. The page still needs permissions and revision checks; a shareable route does not make a private quotation public.
Keep the document reference in the route
| Record | Content | Need |
|---|---|---|
| Q-31 v2 | Eight lines; approved internally | Buyer review next week |
| Q-31 v1 | Earlier six-line revision | Compare changes |
| NOTE-4 | One staff-only sentence | Quick edit and return |
Should NOTE-4 and Q-31 v2 automatically use the same presentation?
Show the worked answer
No. A bounded note edit may use a dialog, while the long versioned quotation needs a revisit-able detail surface. Choose per task and preserve the document identity.
Check the chosen interaction
- Open, close and reopen without losing the intended revision.
- If using a modal, verify Escape and focus return.
- Try a copied detail link with an account that lacks quotation access.
